The Events Which Make Kerala One Unique Destination

The scenic and natural beauty of Kerala- cannot be explained in mere words. Everything in Kerala is worth watching which hence makes it one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the country. 1.Snake boat ride


The season of monsoon is the season of snake boat ride, here in Kerala. There are mainly two kinds of snake boat races which are conducted here. One is mainly related to the religious ceremonies which are conducted as part of the Onam festival, and others are truly sports. The most popular among all of these is the Nehru Trophy Boat race, held in Alleppey district which showcases the rural culture and versatility of Kerala.


2. Theyyam


Also known as Kaliyattam, Theyyam is a ceremonious dance which is famous in north Kerala. Theyyam includes energetic dance, mime, and music. The base of this dance is vintage ethnic philosophy which is considered to be of exceptional importance to the devotion of a brave man and the spirits of descendants. The most soectacular Theyyams among the 400 theyyams performed are those of- Raktha Chamundi, Muchilottu Bhagavathi, Kari Chamundi, Wayanadu, Gulikan,Kulaven, and Potta.


3. Onam festival


Onam is the most important and most popular festival of the state of Kerala. It is a harvest pageant and is widely known for being celebrated with joy and enthusiasm all around the state by all communities. It is said to be conducted to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is stated to go to Kerala on the time of Onam. Various carnivals and fairs are held during this festival.


4. Kalarippayatt


Kerala has an extraordinary and unique style of martial art called Kalaripayattu which is primarily based on the antique understanding of the human frame. This Kerala martial artwork style is well-known across the world, while its derivation is traced to Parasurama, the former of Kerala- who was the pioneer of this artwork of self-defence. The region where this martial artwork is practiced is called a 'Kalari’.


5. Velakali


This is an elaborate and spectacular martial folk art which is unique to Kerala. It is usually performed along with religious events. It is also popularly known as Thirumbi vela and kulathilvela. More than fifty performers participate in the event dressed in traditional attire as soldiers carrying colorful shields and swords and dance in the war like steps in perfect rhythm. It is really going to be a treat for the eyes.
