Kerala
is south India’s most serene and picturesque state for many travelers. A lean
coastal strip is shaped by its layered landscape: a relaxed network of
sparkling backwaters; about 600-km of majestic Arabian Sea coasts and beaches;
and the tea and spice covered hills of Western Ghats. Kerala is light years
away from the modern world frenzy, as if this beautiful state of India had
passed through the Looking Glass to become an altogether more laid-back place.
Kerala is also home to wild elephants, odd tiger and exotic birds. While the
vibrant colors of Kathakali add up joy in your life, snake-boat races and
temple festivals frequently bring the smallest of villages to life. Below are a
few places you must visit while you're on your Kerala holiday packages.
Alleppey:
The
renowned backwaters of Kerala stretch into North, East and south of Alleppey,
while the Kerala’s largest lake, Vembanad Lake, reaches all the way to Kochi
(Cochin). Along the coasts of Alleppey, Marari has turned itself into a full
fledge beach resort which is a treat in itself.
Wayanad:
A lot
of locals here in Kerala rate the raised Wayanad region as their state’s most beautiful
part, and it indeed is encompassing in itself as a part of remote forest
reserve which spills into Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Wayanad is loaded with landscape
combines, rice paddies, mountain sceneries, bamboo, skinny beetle nut trees,
spiky ginger fields, red earth and cardamom, rubber and coffee plantations.
The natural beauty here is almost unparalleled by any other state in
Kerala, thus making it a “must visit” for your Kerala holiday packages.
Varkala:
Varkala
is perched perilously along the verge of 15m high red laterite cliffs. The
North cliff of Varkala has naturally appealing setting as it offers beautiful
views and has grown to be Kerala’s most popular backpacker destination. A few
beaches hit their waves to the cliffs of Varkala, where the restaurants play
non-irritant world music and stalls sell silver jewellery, T-shirts and baggy
trousers. If you are not really a fan of a crowded place, don’t worry as you
can easily get away on the further south or north where the beaches are quieter
and cleaner.
Kochi:
The
picturesque Kochi has been drawing explorers, traders and travelers to its
seven shores for more than 600 years. It is hard to find such an intriguing mix
anywhere else in India: A 400 year old synagogue, giant fishing nets from
China, Portuguese houses, ancient mosques and crumbling remains of the infamous
British Raj. The outcome is a unique blend of medieval Holland, Portugal and an
English village drawn over the canvas of the tropical Malabar Coast.
